Third Grade information
What do i need to know?????
Attendance: It is very important that your child arrive at school on time each day. Students may not arrive at school prior to 7:40 a.m. or go on the playground as there is no supervision. At 7:40 they will be allowed out on the playground with staff supervision. At 7:50, they will be excused to their classrooms. School officially begins at 7:50 and ends at 2:20 (Mondays, 7:50-1:20).
Communication: An effective school program is maintained through communication between teacher and parents. Please feel free to speak with me if you have any questions or concerns. The best way to get ahold of me is to e-mail me
at [email protected]. If there is a message that needs to reach me prior to the end of the school day, it is IMPORTANT to call the office at 916-788-7141. Downloading our school app is yet another way to keep you informed and connected. From the app you will have an event calendar, absence reporting, academic resources, fundraisers, lunch menus and more at your fingertips.
PE, Spanish, Computer Lab, and Library Check-out: This year our students will have PE and Spanish twice a week. The days your child has PE, please make sure your child dresses appropriately. Once a week my class will have Computer Lab and Library. I hope to be able to take my class to the library to check out books on a weekly schedule soon after the school year begins. I will let you know which day of the week will be our check-out day as soon as I know.
Homework: The purpose of homework is for reinforcement of skills learned in class in order to become proficient, much like the purpose of practicing soccer, baseball, dance, karate, or piano. I do not believe in loading down the kids. Homework is practice of something I have taught them and should be done fairly easily. If you are finding your child is spending way too much time on homework or struggling, please let me know. However, If you are feeling like your child needs more homework..........Read, read, read, practice math facts, or build something, bake something, play a game, help them use their skills in a real world way. This is much more meaningful than more work.
Birthdays : Please feel free to send in a birthday treat on your child's birthday, and we will celebrate with them at the end of the school day.
Lunch Money: If your child is bringing money for school lunches, he/she needs to turn that in BEFORE the school day starts. Lunch money can be turned in to the office. When we have to process the money at lunch time, it slows the line down. For your convenience, you may also put money on their lunch account online through MySchoolBucks.
Volunteers: I can always use your help. Just let me know if you would like to volunteer and we can work out a time for you to come in. I appreciate having regular volunteers to help with Art Docent, reading groups, math groups, correcting, and stuffing Friday folders, as well as preparing classroom materials.
Notes: Please send a note to school with your child if he or she is going to be going home with a friend or family member they do not usually go home with. In order to make sure that all of the students are safe, please make sure to check in at the office if you are volunteering or going to visit a classroom.
Snack: This year our class has lunch at 11:00. There are always several students that complain of being hungry long before it is time for lunch. To help alleviate this problem, students are invited to bring a small healthy snack from home, if they choose. I will not be providing food during snack time. Snack will be eaten in the "snack zone" area on the playground during our morning recess time.
