About Mrs. Winter
After graduating from San Francisco State (CSUSF) with a BA, I decided to work in the restaurant business because I had a passion for cooking. I think I have worked every position from dish washer to waitress, and cook to manager. After working in the business for ten years I realized that it was difficult to fit family time in so I decided to go into teaching because I knew I also enjoyed working with children.
I continued my studies toward becoming a teacher and went off to National University for my teaching credential and masters. While doing my student teaching I was lucky enough to acquire a job teaching at a private school along side of my aunt in 4th grade. During my two years at Brookfield, I also started an after school art program for the students. I was sad to leave Brookfield, but was fortunate enough to be chosen to open Sierra Elementary in 2001. I have taught 6th grade, and 16 years of 2nd and 3rd grade. I also feel very fortunate to be a part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme that we have cultivated here at Sierra.
My travels abroad have consisted of Iceland, Mexico, Czech Republic, Italy, France, and England. I have enjoyed all that each place had to offer. I was excited to finally use the 7 years of French I took when I traveled to France a few years ago. It even got me out of a pickle in Venice, Italy!
Last but not least, I enjoy being a wife and parent. My husband and I have two sons. Peyton is 10 years old, starting fifth grade, and Aaron, will be continuing his college at Sac State. I love having time to just hang out and play as a family. When the kids are not involved in sports, we enjoy outdoor activities like golfing and rafting as well as heading to the snow in the winter time.
